My first thought was someone hit a deer.

My first thought was someone hit a deer. It was a giant dark red spot that stretched all over the opposite lane. Driving towards it, it looked like someone had tried to paint a picture of a jellyfish, a dome shape at the top with little red strands of blood that made the tentacles. My second thought was how bad that deer must have messed up the car or truck of whoever had hit the poor thing. It must have been a horribly bloody situation.

I got to work that day and went through all the usual stuff. I didn’t give that spot on the road much thought. I got home that night and my husband wasn’t there. All the lights were off in the house and his car was in the driveway. He didn’t come home at all that night or the next day. I contacted the police and that was when the investigtion began.

It was months later when I thought about that spot on the road and what it really could have been. Thinking about it, I didn’t remember seeing any fur. I didn’t remember seeing any glass or oil. Just that big spot of dried blood. By the time I reached the obvious conclusion, the spot was completely gone.

Officialy his disappearance remains unsolved. Unofficially, I know where he is. He’s back at his real home. Back with his real family. I only wish that I could have seen it. To see if it would have really been like he described it. All those years I thought he was just joking and leading me on when he would say he was a gift from god.

  1. Wow, these are really something, I read through your blog and couldn’t help to get hooked, the concept you’re working in here works great. I’d like to invite you as a guest artist in my fairly new website, Opus Epitome, it is basically a project to promote all sorts of art (literature, graphical, etc.) which is, as of now, still in the way of creating a solid fan base, but we hope to get that matter solved as soon as we launch a larger publicitary campaign. We’ll provide you with as much exposure as we can and perhaps some day be willing to commission some of your work. If you’re not interested or do not have the time, feel free to register in our forums (through which you can submit pieces as well). Send me an email to carlos@opusepitome.com if you decide to take my offer, please.

  2. That was an extremely deep story, and I wasn’t expecting the last line at the end. You are a good writer, and your blog is very addicting.

  3. Agreed. I found it through my dashboard. I hope to remember to come back.

  4. Your story was tantalizing and has me questioning whether or not it is real.. and if it is, how terrible it must be. I think you write very well. I hope to again visit your blog.

  5. Indeed…I liked the story as well.

  6. Your stories have been growing more morbid.

I’m not sure I like it as much.

  7. DAMN! That’s good stuff. I gotta blogroll you!

  8. thanks for the comments. sorry if some of this is a little morbid lizzyrd. I can’t help but write what comes to my head.

  9. It’s fair enough, you write what you think, what comes to mind. But especially the story with the butchered son… don’t get me wrong, I love morbid stories, but I just noticed a trend, that you were writing more of them.
